Polar Express train rides by state.
The Polar Express train ride is a holiday train based on the picture book. For 2026, 32 railroads in 21 states run a licensed version, mostly from early November to late December.
Each railroad sets its own dates, prices, and rules. This page lists every ride we could confirm on the railroad's own site, with what families need to know before booking.

Tips for riding with little kids
- Book early. Several rides were already sold out by late October.
- Kids wear pajamas, but bring warm layers. Some waiting areas are outdoors and cold.
- Check the lap rule before you buy. Most rides let kids under 2 ride free on a lap, but some need a ticket for every child.
- On most rides, Santa visits every car, so you don't need first class to see him.
- Use the bathroom before you board. Some trains have none on board.
- The train whistle is loud. Ear protection helps kids who don't like loud noises.
