Christmas in New York with kids.
Christmas in New York is the classic holiday trip. The Rockefeller Center tree, the Macy's windows, and the markets at Bryant Park and Grand Central are all free. Add the Holiday Train Show, the Bronx Zoo lights, or the Rockettes, and kids will talk about it for years.
It's also the most crowded time of year in Midtown. Go early in the day, book the ticketed shows ahead, and plan breaks indoors.
Before you go
- See the Rockefeller tree on a weekday morning. Evenings and weekends are packed.
- Macy's Santaland is free, but you need a time slot. Slots open 7 days before each date, starting November 20.
- Book the Holiday Train Show, Bronx Zoo lights, and Radio City early for weekend dates.
- Midtown sidewalks get very crowded. A carrier is easier than a stroller there.
- Use the subway to hop between areas instead of walking across Midtown in the cold.
