Where to see Santa near you: Santa photos and breakfast with Santa.
A visit with Santa is one of the sweetest parts of the season. It's also the one that can go wrong fastest, with a long line, a tired toddler and a photo you didn't want to pay for.
We found 58 Santa visits in 28 US cities for 2026, including 15 free ones, 12 breakfasts and teas with Santa, and 13 Santa trains. Santa also stops by 149 parades, festivals and light shows. Each one was checked on its official site, with dates, prices and tips for little kids.
Our honest take: seeing Santa is worth it at any age, as long as you skip the worst of the line. Book a time slot if there is one, or go on a weekday morning. Find out what the photo costs before you get in line. And if your toddler is scared, let them stand next to Santa instead of on his lap.
Updated . Dates and prices change, so check the official site before you go.

Breakfast with Santa near you
Breakfast with Santa is a calmer way to meet him. You sit down to a meal, and kids often get a craft or a story too. Then Santa comes by or you take your turn. It's not more time with Santa, but it's a much nicer wait than a line.
Check two things before you book. First, is a photo with Santa included? Some breakfasts include one, and some don't. Second, how do tickets work? Most must be bought ahead, and the popular dates sell out.
To find one near you, look at your local zoo, botanical garden, historic house, hotels and parks department. Those are the places that run most breakfasts with Santa.

Santa trains
A Santa train is a train ride where Santa gets on board or waits at the end of the line. Little train fans often remember it as the best part of Christmas. Rides sell out, so book early. We list 34 train rides with Santa, including The Polar Express. See them all in our guide to Christmas train rides. Here are the rides that are all about Santa:

Sensory-friendly Santa
A sensory-friendly Santa visit is a calmer time to meet him, with fewer people, softer lights and less noise. Often it's before the place opens, so there's little or no line. There are only one or two dates at each place, so book as soon as you can.
- Santaland at Macy's Herald SquareNew York · Nov 27 - Dec 24Weekday slots are calmer than weekends. Ask about the sensory-friendly hours if your child dislikes crowds and noise.
- Photos with Santa at Westfield TopangaLos Angeles · Nov 13 - Dec 24Santa sets up inside the mall for photos all season. A quiet, early-morning Sensory Santa hour runs on Dec 6.
- Photos with Santa at Westfield Culver CityLos Angeles · Nov 13 - Dec 24Santa sits in front of Macy's for photos all season. A calmer sensory-friendly hour runs on Dec 6.
- The Polar Express Train Ride (Galveston Railroad Museum)Houston · Nov 13 - Dec 23Strollers and baby carriers aren't allowed on board, so plan to hold little ones. Pajamas are welcome. Dec 15 has sensory-friendly rides.
- Santa Trolley at the Pennsylvania Trolley MuseumPittsburgh · Nov 27 - Dec 20A sensory-friendly Santa Trolley runs Sun Nov 29, with dimmer lights, quieter sound and fewer riders.
- THE POLAR EXPRESS Train RideNew Orleans · Dec 11-31Plan on about 2 hours, and arrive 60 minutes early. The Dec 18 10am ride is sensory-friendly. Find your own parking near the station.
- Wild Lights at the Saint Louis ZooSt. Louis · Nov 27 - Dec 30Mon Dec 7 is a sensory-friendly night. Parking in the North and South lots is free. Bring your own stroller, since rentals cost extra.
- Saint Charles Christmas TraditionsSt. Louis · Nov 27 - Dec 24Santa photos are at the KATY Train Depot in Frontier Park on opening day, weekends and Christmas Eve. There's a free sensory-friendly time too.
- PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati ZooCincinnati · Nov 19 - Jan 3Santa is in Santa's Village from 4pm every day, and his last night is Dec 23. The zoo also runs a sensory-friendly Santa visit that you sign up for on its site.
It helps to tell Santa about your child before your turn. For example, ask him to wave instead of hug, or to use your child's name.
When to see Santa (and skip the line)
The best time to see Santa is a weekday morning, early in the season. The worst is a weekend afternoon in the last week before Christmas, when lines at popular Santas can take an hour or more.
| Topic | Go for | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| When | Weekday mornings, right when Santa starts | Weekends and the last week before Christmas |
| Booking | Book a time slot as soon as they open (often 7 days ahead) | Walk up on a Saturday in December |
| Little kids | Before naps, after a snack | Late afternoon, when everyone is tired |
At a famous Santa, a booked time may only get you into the line, not straight to Santa. Bring a snack (eat it before you go in if food isn't allowed), a carrier or stroller, and something to do.
Tips for a happy Santa visit (and a good photo)
There's no wrong age to see Santa. Babies usually do fine, because Santa or a parent can hold them. From about 1 to 3, many kids are scared of strangers and cry. By 4 or 5, most kids love it and have a wish list ready.
- Don't force the lap. Your child can stand next to Santa, sit on your lap beside him, or give him a high five.
- Join the photo yourself if it helps. A scared toddler often calms down in a parent's arms.
- Babies are the easiest Santa photo, especially a sleepy one. Kids aged 1 to 3 cry the most, and that's OK. Santa sees tears all day.
- Ask what the photo costs and whether you can use your own phone before you get in line. You can always say no to the package.
- Talk about Santa at home first. Look at last year's photo, or watch Santa from a distance before your turn.
- Dress in layers. Lines can be outside in the cold, and Santa's spot is often warm inside.

Questions parents ask
Where can I get free pictures with Santa?
Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's give a free 4x6 photo with Santa and a free video, from Nov. 8 to Christmas Eve 2026. You can book a time online up to 7 days ahead. Many towns, parks and shopping streets also have free Santa visits where you take the photo on your own phone. We list 15 free Santa visits and 62 free events with Santa on this page.
Where is the best place to see Santa near me?
Find your city in the list on this page. We cover 58 Santa visits in 28 US cities for 2026, from free Santa houses to breakfasts, Santa trains and Macy's Santaland in New York. For little kids, the best Santa is the one with the shortest line. Look for a place that lets you book a time.
What is breakfast with Santa?
It's a ticketed breakfast or brunch where Santa visits the tables or kids take a turn to meet him. There's often a craft or story time too. Some include a photo with Santa and some don't, so check before you book. Popular dates sell out, so buy tickets early.
When is the best time to see Santa without a long line?
A weekday morning, early in the season, right when Santa starts. Weekend afternoons in the last week before Christmas are the busiest. If the place lets you book a time slot, do it. Slots often open about 7 days ahead, and weekends go first.
What if my child is scared of Santa?
Don't force it. Let them stand next to Santa, sit on your lap beside him, or just wave. You can also watch Santa from a distance and come back later. Kids aged 1 to 3 are the most likely to cry, and a crying photo can become a family favorite.
Can adults and the whole family get photos with Santa?
Yes. Most Santa visits welcome the whole family in the photo, and many parents join in to help a nervous toddler. If you want a photo with just the grown-ups, check with the event first.
Is there a sensory-friendly Santa near me?
We list 9 Santa visits and Santa trains with a sensory-friendly time, with softer lights, less noise and fewer people. They include Westfield Topanga and Culver City in Los Angeles, the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum near Pittsburgh, and The Polar Express in Galveston and New Orleans. There are usually only one or two dates, so book early.
When does Santa arrive at stores and malls?
It depends on the store. At Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's, Santa arrives on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, and photos start the next day. The malls on this page start between late October and mid-November, and Macy's Santaland in New York opens in late November. Check each listing on this page for its dates.
